In his last breath, the King told his teenage son, “You can only inherit the throne if you find the crown that went missing on the day your were born."

The prince went to consult the wisest elder in the kingdom, who told the Mountain God’s daughter had long ears, and she might have heard something.

In the heart of the Blue Mountains, the Mountain God told the prince: “Bring me the heart of the water dragon."

The prince defeated the pirates on the Great Lakes, and they took him everywhere on their lizard boats. After three years in search, he found the seven-headed dragon and slaughtered him.

The daughter of the Mountain God told the prince that the wizard of the Barbarian King knew who stole the crown. The Barbarian King was the archenemy of the prince’s father. The prince amassed a big army and fought a twenty-year war with the King. Finally, when the King was defeated for the seventh time, he surrendered his wizard to the prince.

The wizard told the prince that he had a vision of the person who stole the crown, a sailor named Armeed in the Remote Kingdom. He had a snake tattoo on his right arm and a dagger on his left.

The prince set sail across the Vast Ocean. His ship sank in a storm, and he drifted to an island, where the islanders sold him to the Yaminians as a slave. He worked hard labor for nine years before he was able to flee to the Remote Kingdom.

Two years later, he found Armeed. When the retired seaman knew the identity of the visitor, he called out his wife, who kneeled in front of the prince.

“I was maid in the palace. I stole the crown while all converged on the nursery when you were born, but the guards found out and searched everyone, so I slipped into your room and hid the crown in the oak box before I fled with Armeed’s ship."

The prince rushed back to his palace. His servants could hardly recognize him. His hair was sparse and grey, and his face full of wrinkles and battle scars. The bust of his father had been sitting on that dark oak box in his own bedroom ever since he could remember. No one ever realized that it could be opened by pushing a hidden button from below.

He had the statue removed, and opened the lid with trembling hands.

There was the crown.

Just like this crown, which was a lid away from the prince all his life, enlightenment, which means true freedom and end of suffering, is inside you ever since you were born,  just a decision away.

However, for most of us, it takes a long journey, sometimes life-long or even lives-long, to realize it.

  1. 自信就是comfortable under your skin。
